Other Dependencies

But this new discovery is not only limited to tobacco – scientists hope that it will also serve to eliminate dependencies on other substances.

They indicate that at least 30 of these identified genes intervene in the control in dependency on other substances. These discoveries offer strong support to the idea that nicotine dependency shares common genetic vulnerabilities with addictions to other drugs be they legal or illegal.

Some of these specific, identified genes could also provide explanations on why certain people appear to have a higher special susceptibility to addiction and why others are able to give-up harmful habits more easily. These observations open up new possibilities in producing more specific objectives in treatments.

Marijuana is a drug that is very dangerous to mental health.

One marijuana cigarette is equivalent to five tobacco cigarettes.

An investigative team led by David Moir discovered that directly inhaled smoke from a marijuana cigarette contains 20 times more ammonia, five times more hydrogen cyanide and five times more the concentration of nitrogen oxide than that of a normal cigarette.

These results tell us that circulation and immunisation system complaints are worse in cannabis consumers. This has been backed up by Stephen Spiro from the British Lung Foundation who indicated that “marijuana has similar carcinogens to tobacco and are found in especially volatile organic compounds”.

Scientists also demonstrate that some of the chemical substances combine and are related to reproductive system disorders and cancer whilst ammonia is related to asthma and that hydrogen cyanide provokes weakness and weight-loss.
In July, investigators from New Zealand warned that one marijuana cigarette is equivalent to five tobacco cigarettes.

1. Is the treatment painful? No. Absolutely not. No pain is experienced whilst the treatment is being applied – to the contrary, it is very relaxing and pleasurable.

2. How is the treatment carried out? A laser is applied to specific points on the skin in order to obtain the natural secretion of endorphins.

3. What are endorphins? Endorphins are hormones that the body naturally secretes and they help us to reduce anxiety and relax whilst also producing a pleasurable sensation.

4. Will I put on weight if I give-up smoking? Normally people do not put on weight given that the elevated level of endorphins reduce anxiety and therefore the body does not feel the need to substitute food for tobacco. Some people even lose weight after treatment if they used to eat compulsively due to anxiety given that this anxiety is now alleviated. It is also certain that once given-up smoking, the metabolic rate reduces and therefore the body burns less calories with a resulting weight increase but that with a balanced diet and some exercise no significant weight increase should be experienced.

5. Will I have to take any medication? No. We only recommend that you take vitamins and minerals.

6. Can I give-up smoking? Giving-up smoking is a personal process that each smoker has to experience until they achieve that goal. The proven success rate is greater than 90%. We will monitor your case individually and if you need more sessions then we will give you them and if you relapse then your entitled to further treatment free of charge within 12 months of completion of the previous treatment.

7. What happens if I smoke alter having the treatment? It has been demonstrated that one cigarette is sufficient to experience a relapse. We are addicted to nicotine for life as the addiction is latent in our brains.

8. Can pregnant women and people that have had cardiac arrests undergo treatment? Yes, the therapy is totally natural and doesn’t have any contraindication of any type given that the treatment is carried out with a low powered infra-red laser.
